Moller 77 chair by Niels Otto Moller

Description

Moller 77 chair designed in 1959 by Niels Otto Moller (1920-1982).

During World War II there were material shortages and danish makers were forced to substitute. Papercord emerged as a popular material and has become a feature of modern Scandinavian design.

The Designers Inspiration “A stubborn perfectionist’ is how Niels Moller describes himself. “These are good traits for a designer to have”.

JL Moller was established in 1944 in Aarhus, Denmark. Today, under the helm of Niels granddaughter Kirsten, the third generation ‘mobelfabrik’ still operates with no assembly lines, each chair made by hand from start to finish.

Fabrication Walnut frame handcrafted and finished with a furniture oil applied and polished by hand. Traditional danish papercord seat woven from one continuous 129 meter cord.

Design Consigned Stylist Mid century modern Scandinavian chairs in rich walnut and a more edgy (and practical) black paper cord. Suited to ‘nordic noir’ interiors rather than the typical blond scandi look. A black or walnut table works best. See below.

DC Collectors The Moller 77 is an iconic Modern Danish Design of the 1950s.
