Rare original leather Bambola armchair with Bambouff footrest from B&BItalia.

Le Bambole was released in 1972 by the then C&BItalia. It was the creation of 35 year old Italian architect, Mario Bellini. The design was an immediate hit relating to the mood of the times and heralded onto the market via a very controversial marketing campaign with imagery by photographer Olivero Toscani featuring a topless Donna Jordan, the well known american fashion model. It wasn’t long before Le Bambole evolved into an entire collection including sofas, a chaise, beds and an ottoman, all pillow like forms with jumbo pinched seams and wadding fill wrapped in hessian. During the 1980s, the reformed B&B Italia introduced an internal tubular steel support frame and Bayfit® responsive padding. In 2007 removable covers became available. in 2023 we witnessed the retrun to a sustainable edition Le Bambole with a 100% recyclable internal structure.

Designer’s initial inspiration To create seating without any load bearing internal structure or feet. Pillow like forms of wadding encased in hessian fabric.

Fabrication Internal steel tubular support frame embedded inside flexible cold shaped polyurethane foam, polyester fibre cover. Removable silver zipped original B&Bitalia leather covers.
