A 1970s ‘brutalist’ concrete and tinted glass oval dining table by Giovanni Offredi for Saporiti Italy.

Designed / launched by whom/when:‘Paracarro’ is a table by Industrial designer Giovanni Offredi (Milan 1927-2007) named after the ancient stone street bollards in his home town…..which, unimagined by Offredi, have today taken on a new important security role. Made by Saporiti Italia, established in 1950 by Sergio Saporiti who proclaimed each piece produced will be “destined to last in form and function until the next era”. And so very true. The company today delivers product, interiors and architecture projects across the globe.

Inspiration:Brutalist design flourished from 1950s -70s . The name comes from the French word for ‘raw’. Le ‘beton brut’, or raw concrete, was Le Corbusiers favourite material due to it’s durability.

Fabrication:Concrete base, Black steel cross support, grey tempered crystal glass top. Three materials in complete harmony.

Hidden Features:Beautifully maintained, will not scratch easily due to the high quality tempered crystal glass.

Design Consigned Stylist:Two words, ‘beautifully brutal’. Seats 8 comfortably in carvers or up to 10 in regular chairs. An oval table is always a good choice.

Design Consigned Collector:Authentic 1970s mid century modern ‘brutalist’ design, made in Italy by Saporiti. Most likely the only one in Australia.

Purchase Verification:One owner since 1984. Imported directly from the Saporiti showroom in Via Monte Napoleone, Milano, Italy. Yes, we have the owner’s original Invoice.
