Cavour desk by Carlo Mollino for Zanotta

Cavour desk designed in 1949 by Italian architect Carlo Mollino (1905 -1973 Turin) for Zanotta Italy.

The Designers Inspiration During the 1940s, architect Carlo Mollino was also designing one off pieces for his client’s homes. From his archival drawings Zanotta have reissued the magnificent Cavour desk.

Fabrication Solid oak frame with wenge (darkest brown) stain. Side panels in MDF with black piano high gloss. Brushed steel fittings. Transparent 12mm  plate glass resting top. Side table supported by slender metal rod braces, and with open top slide out stationery drawer under a glass top that slots on to 4 posts. Five drawer lockable cabinet with keys.

Hidden Features Glass tops are removable / replaceable.

DC Insider Carlo Mollino was known to be ‘a student of the occult’, and had a wild fun loving personality. He loved skiing, photography, stunt flying, and car racing.

Our Condition Report 3/5 (That’s vintage > 10 years). Very Good with some light scratches to glass consistent with age. 4cm long chip off the edge of the side table square glass top (see image) (glass can be rotated, replaced locally, or reordered from Zanotta, or just enjoy it as an authentic vintage design)
