Tom Dixon Mirror lamp
Here’s one for the contemporary design collector. Extremely rare authentic Tom Dixon Mirror lamp c2002.
Designed / launched by whom/when: The idea for the Mirror Ball Collection was originally conceived in the late 1990s. Following the establishment of Tom Dixon Studio London in 2002 the collection was prototyped and went into production becoming a sensation at the 2004 Milan Fair.
Inspiration: The Space age. “Rather than vanishing into the surroundings as I intended, these lights were seen, especially by the French, as visible, showy, and rather bling-bling” says Tom of his first Collection.
Fabrication: An advanced technical process of vacuum metalisation whereby chromed aluminium is exploded inside a polycarbonate shell creating a highly mirrored finish. Clear cable + switch. Tested and working.
Design Consigned Stylist: Small table lamp with a big impact. Highly collectible reflective ‘noughties’ style bling that looks as good on or off.
Design Consigned Collector: Extremely rare lamp. Only a few of these were ever made. An early example of Tom Dixons signature innovative material use.
Authenticity: verified. Sourced in 2008 at Tom Dixon Studio sale in London by current owner. Most likely the only one in Australia. A few scratches that do not detract. See Tom Dixon Studio London image below.
DC Insider: Tom was born in Tunisia and is a self-taught designer. His works have been acquired by MOMA New York, V&A Museum London and Centre Georges Pompidou Paris. He has an OBE for services to British Design.
