Knoll Tulip pedestal series table and 4 chairs. SOLD 

Designed / launched by whom/when Eero Saarinen (1910-1961) was a Finnish born American Industrial Designer who studied Sculpture and Furniture Design at the Academy of Art in Michigan where he befriended Charles Eames and Florence Knoll (then Schust) The Tulip series was created in 1958, for his friend’s furniture brand, Knoll.

Inspiration A flared ‘stem’ is enough for support, declared Saarinen who wanted to reduce the visual noise and clutter under tables and chairs.

Fabrication: Solid cast aluminium base with gloss resin finish. Signature Calacatta  grey white marble top with under bevel.

Hidden Features Includes set of 4 Tulip chairs with sun yellowing to seat shells and faded original fabric. One chair has small cracks on each side of backrest.

Design Consigned Stylist:Curvilinear and organic forms, instantly recognisable 1950s Design. This tulip setting in calacatta marble is for those after that vintage aesthetic.

DC Collectors Knoll Inc was founded in New York City in 1938 by Hans Knoll. His wife Florence later expanded the company on to International production. This table was made in Italy at the Knoll factory in Foligno.

Verification Base wears Alcoa embossing, the aluminium component manufacturer for Knoll. One original owner. Some faint white round etch rings to top visible only in bright daylight.
