On the Rocks sofa by Francesco Binfare for Edra

Designed in 2004, the iconic On The Rocks seating system by Francesco Binafre (b1939 Milan), a creative force behind the Edra brand. 4 seating modules with 2 back rest modules.

The Designers Inspiration Visiting Italy’s Apulian coast, designer Francesco Binfare noted how swimmers emerged from the sea to bask randomly across the sun warmed rocks, relaxing on the rocky landscape. He set about designing a sofa inspired by this, a sofa with no restrictions, that allows for a similar type of total individual freedom.

Fabrication Edra patented ®Gellyfoam technology allows joins and mechanisms to be eliminated. The velour technical upholstery fabric developed by Edra has a three dimensional appearance evoking the look of a rocky ledge. Colour – light grey

Hidden Features Includes 2 backrest tubes which gently adhere on to the seat areas with tiny circular rubber grips, and concealed thermoplastic feet ground the rocks to the floor.

Design Consigned Stylist Create one island or two. Relaxing On the Rocks is somewhat of an oxymoron, lazing on a cloud is a more accurate description of the user experience. Being marooned on these ‘rocks’, (three polygonic, and one quadrilateral), would not be so bad. No need to panic, the white Edra logo seam flags are displayed. However, it’s not going to be easy to extricate anyone from these rocks.

Provenance One owner 2020. Currently unused in storage.
