Vica Chair by Bertjan Pot for moooi

The ‘Vica’ chair by Bertjan Pot for moooi takes the typical steel framed chair and wraps it with mountaineering sleeve rope.

Designed by who and when: Designed in 2007 by Bertjan Pot for Dutch design powerhouse moooi. At his Design Studio in Rotterdam, Bertjan enjoys pushing the boundaries. Take a look here.

Inspiration: Bertjan Pot’s designs show a fascination for techniques, structures, pattern and colour all of which are displayed in the ‘Vica’. “my goal in designing it was to soften those typical 20th Century steel frame chairs” Vica came in 3 colour ways each with a different ‘power cord’ cover.

Fabrication: Tubular steel frame wrapped in grey/black/yellow mountaineering ‘sleeve rope’. Fire retardant foam cushioning upholstered in Europes highest quality Kvadrat commercial grade fabric in black.

Design Consigned Insider: Vica was originally named ‘Wieki’ Moooi ‘adopted’ the design and renamed it Vica.

Design Consigned Collector: Early moooi collectible, no longer in production. Bertjan has collaborated with Established and Sons, Hay and Cassina. His best known design is The Random Light, on show in the V&A Museum, London.
