Rare vintage 616 baby chair by Ben af Schulten for Artek Finland.
Designed / launched by whom/when: Ben af Schulten was long time Design Director at Artek Finland and a ‘design disciple’ of founder Alvar Aalto. He designed the 616 baby chair in 1965. Inspiration: Finnish 1960s modernist design in the spirit of Alvar Aalto
Fabrication: Lacquered natural birch frame and matt painted bent birch ply support in ‘winter white’
Design Consigned Stylist: Collectible and useful object of Finnish Design. A high chair for designer babies that you don’t hide away in the butlers pantry.
Design Consigned Collector: Authentic original, made in Helsinki by Artek. Imported by Thonet Australia in the 1990s. Rare collectible, no longer in production.
DC Insider: Used widely across Scandinavia from 1965 to 2000. Purchased from Thonet Melbourne agents for Artek in the 1990s. *We will not accept liability re current Australian child safety Standards.
