Artek designer high chair
Rare vintage 616 baby chair by Ben af Schulten for Artek Finland.
Designed / launched by whom/when: Ben af Schulten was long time Design Director at Artek Finland and a ‘design disciple’ of Artek founder Alvar Aalto. He designed the 616 baby chair in 1965.
Inspiration: Finnish 1960s modernist design in the spirit of Alvar Aalto
Fabrication: Lacquered natural birch frame and matt painted bent birch ply support in ‘winter white’
Design Consigned Stylist: Collectible and useful object of Finnish Design. The high chair for designer babies that you won’t need to hide away in the butlers pantry. Pull it up close to the table.
Design Consigned Collector: Authentic original, made in Helsinki by Artek. Imported by Thonet Australia in the 1990s. Rare collectible, no longer in production. In very good condition, fully functioning with no structural faults.
DC Insider: Widely used across Scandinavia from 1965 to 2000. Purchased from Thonet Melbourne agents for Artek in the 1990s. *Design Consigned will not accept liability re current Australian child safety Standards which ironically obliges new mums to buy plastic chairs from China that end up in landfill.
