The beautiful Uovo ‘egg’ lamp by Fontana Arte was designed 48 years ago ! Inspired by one of natures best designs, it remains a global design favourite.
Designed by:Ben Swildens, 1972. Ben was born in the Netherlands and in true Dutch style spent a childhood traveling the world with his Architect father studying in Tangiers, a Swiss Polytechnic and The Ecole des Arts Decoratifs Paris, apprenticing with French master glass maker Max Ingrand where he pursued a passion for glass design.
Made by:Founded in 1932, Fontana Arte of Italy established itself as the glassmaking specialist for renowned Italian architect Gio Ponti.
Fabrication:‘Uovo’ is a perfect opaline Murano glass ‘eggshell’ on a stainess steel base. This particular lamp is around 20 years old, still fully functional and in very good condition with no marks or damage. 230V.
DC Stylist:The Uovo lamp looks best on a low cabinet.
DC Collector:Still in production, Fontana Arte presented a retrospective of the Uovo series during Paris Design Week 2015 inside the famous Deyrolle Taxidermy Store on Rue du Bac, Paris.
DC Insider:This is the largest of the three sizes. RRP 2020 A$1,559.
