Edward Wormley 5407 Party sofas x2
A pair of three seater Edward Wormley style 5407 ‘party’ sofas, upholstered in a glamorous ‘slubbed’ aquamarine fabric.
The traditional Chesterfield sofa is an English ‘aristocratic’ design of the 1800s. It’s signature features are rolled arms, buttoned upholstery and matching back and arm height. This sofa is an American modernist take on the original style.
Designed by, when:Edward Wormley (1907-1995) was an American modernist furniture Designer based in California. He designed the ‘party’ sofa for Furniture makers, Dunbar USA, in 1954.
Inspiration:A modernist interpretation of the traditional Chesterfield sofa with a ‘flattened’ rather than ‘rolled’ backrest and arms. Edward Wormley took classic design elements and translated them into a modern vernacular.
Fabrication:Solid timber frame, aquamarine slub fabric with self-button tufting.
DC Insider:Both in same / very good structural condition with firm seat and no lumpiness or sagging, 2-3 faded marks to seat and slight sun fade to side and back. These do not detract, but enhance the vintage appeal. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a condition video.
DC Stylist:Seat 6 or 8 in style on this matching pair. Originally fashionable in the grand estates of England in the 1800s, today a ‘tufted’ sofa makes a ‘boho luxe’ statement as seen in the Parisian boutique of Belgian Fashion Designer Dries van Noten who also chose this sofa style for his Tokyo boutique.
